CARSE Announces 2026 Summer Research and Training Experience (RTE) Student Exchange Program
The Center for Advanced Radio Sciences and Engineering (CARSE) at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) is pleased to announce the 2026 Summer Student Exchange Research Opportunity as part of the Research and Training Experience (RTE) program for undergraduates.
This international research exchange program brings together students from UPRM, Cabrillo College, Norfolk State University, and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in collaboration with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO).
The program is designed to provide undergraduate students in STEM disciplines, including Astronomy, Biophysics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, and Data Science, with hands-on research experience and professional development opportunities.
Selected students from UPRM will participate in research activities hosted at UTSA, while students from Cabrillo College, Norfolk State University, and UTSA will conduct research at UPRM, fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary learning among institutions.
Program Benefits
Participants will receive:
- A $6,000 summer stipend
- Additional support for travel, lodging, and administrative costs
- A guided research project with mentorship
- Professional development workshops
- Field trips and site-specific activities
- Opportunity to earn 3 academic credit hours
Program Dates
June 1 – July 24, 2026
(Program dates may vary slightly depending on the host institution.)
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be an enrolled undergraduate student at UPRM, Cabrillo College, Norfolk State University, or UTSA
- Have completed basic coursework in computer science/programming, physics, and calculus
Application Deadline
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through March 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST.
